- This file contains a description of benefits you receive when you become a
- registered user of Tamper, a brief explanation of shareware concepts, and
- instructions which tell you exactly how to register.

-
- BENEFITS...
-
- When you become a registered user of Tamper, you receive several benefits.
- The first thing that happens is that VORCO TECHNOLOGIES sends you the latest
- version of the Tamper program. This version may include some or all of the
- following enhancements:
-
- - The option to play the computer as an opponent.
- - A custom-designed pop-up calculator, usable during play.
- - An adjustable timer option, to limit the duration of turns.
- - Full Sound Blaster(tm) and Adlib(tm) sound board support.
- - A "what-if" feature, to "look-ahead" when Tampering.
- - History file management, to move games between files.
- - The capability to play an opponent via modem or cable.
- - and lots more!
-
- The more time that has elapsed since the date of this program version, the
- more likely it is that these enhancements have already been implemented. It
- is entirely possible that, as you read this, a program version with all the
- above features, and more, has already been released. And of course, the
- registered version of the program contains none of the annoying message
- screens that pop up during the game and remind you to register.
- In addition to the latest program version, other benefits you receive by
- registering include:
-
- - A high quality, professionally-printed manual.
- - Free lifetime telephone technical support.
- - Free upgrades as they become available.
- - Eligibility to compete in all contests.
- - Future newsletters and announcements.
- - A lifetime, no-questions-asked, money-back guarantee.
- - The good feeling that comes with being honest and ethical.
- - Our enduring respect and good will toward you as a customer.
-
- As of this writing, VORCO TECHNOLOGIES is sponsoring a contest for the best
- score--that is, the player with the least number of rounds to win a game of
- Tamper. First prize is a new 486 computer system. Runner-up prizes will also
- be awarded. In order to compete in this contest, you absolutely MUST be a
- registered user of Tamper. You do not need to have played the winning game on
- a registered version of the program, but you, yourself, must be registered to
- enter. When you register, you will be sent full details on how to enter this
- contest. (A file named CONTEST.DOC is included with this version of Tamper.
- Check this file for more information about the contest.)

- ABOUT SHAREWARE...
-
- Shareware is not a type of software; it is a marketing method. As such, you
- are permitted to freely copy and pass out the program, provided you do not
- charge more than a nominal fee for doing so. You can also use the program
- yourself for the purpose of evaluating it.
- Shareware is not free software, however. If you use a program, you are
- expected to pay for it. Doing so allows this software distribution system to
- work properly for everyone. Shareware registration fees are far less than the
- purchase price of comparable commercial software. Shareware is a good deal for
- all--developer, distributor, and customer.
- There are huge advantages to you in dealing with shareware. You get to "try
- before you buy." That is, you can evaluate software first to make sure you like
- it before you register. Shareware is typically less expensive than commercial
- software, since the developer saves the expense of advertising and retail
- distribution, and passes the savings on to you. On top of that, shareware
- developers are generally more accessible and responsive than retail software
- sources, so that your questions are dealt with more quickly and effectively.
- The Tamper program is distributed as shareware. VORCO TECHNOLOGIES retains
- all rights to the software under copyright law. If you continue to use Tamper
- after trying it out, you are expected to register by paying the registration
- fee. In return for doing so, you receive the above-mentioned benefits.
- The essence of shareware is to provide honest computer users with quality
- software without high prices, while maintaining incentive for programmers to
- continue developing new products. By becoming a registered user of a shareware
- program, you allow the system to work for everyone.
- If you find Tamper useful and discover you are still using the program
- after a reasonable trial period, please register. You'll feel great when you
- do. Guaranteed!
-
- Software developers and distributors who are members of The Association of
- Shareware Professionals (ASP) adhere to strict guidelines for their programs
- and documentation. Software from these sources must conform to certain high-
- quality standards. VORCO TECHNOLOGIES is proud to be a member in good standing
- of ASP.
-
